Celebrating a Beautiful Life: Words of Remembrance for Rev. Dr. Jeff DeYoe

It is with deep grief and great appreciation that the staff and board of Cultivate Abundance remember and celebrate the life of founding board member, Rev. Dr. Jeffrey DeYoe, who passed away on December 12, 2023. Dr. DeYoe began his service to Cultivate Abundance prior to the founding of the organization in 2017, as he lent his support to its establishment, and he remained a member of the board until his death. Jeff served as the first Board Treasurer, and also filled the role of Vice Chairperson for Cultivate Abundance.

Ellen Burnette, Executive Director of Cultivate Abundance, remembers Jeff as a compassionate pastor, treasured friend, and trusted board member. She states, “Jeff played a crucial role in the founding and development of Cultivate Abundance. As our pastor and friend, he provided wise counsel as we nurtured a dream into reality.” Jeff’s passion for the work of Cultivate Abundance, and the organization's partnership with Misión Peniel, was evident throughout his leadership on the board. The wisdom and guidance offered during his years of board service grew out of his fierce commitment to advocacy so that the most marginalized would experience justice.

Australian activist, Lilla Watson, said the following, “If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” Rev. Dr. Jeff DeYoe embodied Watson’s words as a way of life. He believed that his own freedom was inextricably bound to the freedom of his neighbor, and he worked tirelessly so that all people would have the opportunity to live life to the fullest. All those who worked alongside Jeff DeYoe through Cultivate Abundance will forever be grateful for the opportunity to know him and partner with him in mission and ministry. Rest in peace, Jeff, knowing that yours was a life well lived.
